Paddle
Controller
Built to withstand the harshest
conditions!

Equipment operators agree that the Cattron-Theimeg
Paddle-type controller is perfect for heavy industrial applications.
Designed with both operators and maintenance personnel in mind,
this heavy-duty controller is ideal for indoor and outdoor use.
It is very easy to use, as most of the controls have been modeled
after those commonly found in crane cabs. In addition to cranes,
the paddle controller can also be used for railroad, military,
and other industrial applications.
The Paddle controller uses advanced
microcomputer electronics and surface-mount technology. It can
be used with all Cattron-Theimeg AT or MP Series receiver/decoder
units and can be utilized with existing systems as either a replacement
or spare controller. A variety of synthesized and crystal-controIled
RF transmitter configurations can be provided, allowing operation
in the VHF and UHF licensed and non-licensed radio channels.
Durable Construction
The Cattron-Theimeg Paddle controller
consists of an encoder circuit board that uses industrial-grade
mil-spec digital components, a powerful microcomputer and a sophisticated
operating software code. All components are protected by a thick-walled,
epoxy-coated extruded aluminum case. The ends of the housing
are rubberized metal plates that make shock absorbing end "bumpers."
Standard Paddle controllers have room
for up to six paddles, and can be customized with additional
push-buttons and toggle switches. In addition, all functions
are identified by durable, custom-engraved nameplates. Paddle
controllers are field-tested and have been proven under extreme
conditions. Total water and dust sealing makes them suitable
for indoor and outdoor operation.
Operation / Safety
When the operator first turns the power
switch on, a sophisticated self-test routine monitors the motor
function switches to detect a broken wire or a defective switch.
All motor function lever switches are tested for neutrality and
a small speaker beeps when the test is complete. If a motor function
switch failure occurs, it is recognized as a problem and "locked
out" from any further input. A special message is sent to the
receiver/decoder to advise maintenance personnel of the problem.
The message is both displayed and stored in the datalog of the
controller's decoder.
A full length safety bar is provided
to function as an enabling device to all lever switches. It is
a large full length switch that is easily and naturally activated
by the palm of the operator's hand any time he places his hand
into position to move the lever switches. This push-to-operate
(PTO) safety bar will electronically disconnect all lever switches
when it is released, thus stopping motion commands from these
switches. This feature is programmable. Certain applications
may have some lever switches removed from the control of the
PTO bar.
Cattron-Theimeg Paddle controllers are
equipped with a tilt switch to activate diagnostics and can be
optionally programmed to send a function. This function can be
assigned in the decoder for a variety of operations, i.e., to
stop the equipment, sound an alarm or both. Every Paddle controller
may also be equipped with an optional PC-compatible diagnostic
port.
Power Source
Cattron-Theimeg Paddle controllers are
powered with disposable Alkaline or rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries.
In normal operation, a green LED blinks with each function command
message. For added safety and improved performance, the operating
voltage is regulated over the entire battery life, insuring constant
range and reliable operation. Whether you choose disposable or
rechargeable batteries, changing the battery is easy - simply
open the gasketed battery cover, drop the battery in place and
close the cover. There are no wires or connectors to insert into
the battery.
